This talk reflects on how my research was inspired and informed by reading Understanding Political Change, and related books, by Anthony Heath and his colleagues. Those books are situated in a tradition of electoral behaviour research in Oxford. How that field has evolved and broader lessons for other areas of social research will be discussed.
