My DPhil seeks to explore activity choice among radical republican groups in Ireland through a qualitative methods approach.
I am particularly interested in modern Irish history and politics, the strategic choices of non-state actors (including non-state governance), and non-mainstream political actors, organisations, and ideologies more broadly. After completing a BA in History and Politics from the University of Exeter in 2016 (where my thesis explored the development of a ‘paramilitary’ policing apparatus in Northern Ireland), I undertook an MSc in Security Studies at UCL (with particular focus on inter-state conflict); before working in political risk analysis prior to taking up my DPhil offer at the University of Oxford.
My work at Oxford is generously supported by the Clarendon Scholarship and the John Henry Jones Scholarship (Balliol College). Outside of my DPhil I am involved in the voluntary sector within Oxford, particularly the areas of rough-sleeping and access to higher education; as well as exploring the outdoors when I have the time.
