Mathis Ebbinghaus is an Assistant Professor of Sociology (Allgemeine Soziologie) at the University of Klagenfurt. His research examines extraordinary social action, with a particular focus on social movements, political conflict, far-right mobilisation, prosocial behaviour, and collective memory.

Before joining the University of Klagenfurt, Mathis was a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow in the Department of Sociology at the University of Oxford and a Junior Research Fellow at Trinity College. He received his DPhil in Sociology from Nuffield College, Oxford, where his doctoral research examined the causes and consequences of social movements.

Mathis currently serves as an Associate Editor of European Societies.
