Mary Zhang's research interests and contributions are trifold: (a) developing scientifically rigorous measures of multidimensional poverty that are applicable in low- and middle-income countries, (b) understanding the intersectionality between poverty and inequalities resulting from age, gender, ethnicity, geographic regions (urban/rural), climate change, livelihood and work conditions, and (c) finding the protective factors that can help vulnerable groups stay economically and mentally resilient.
