Professor Jonathan Gershuny CBE FBA is an Emeritus Statutory Professor of the University of Oxford, where he was a Fellow of Nuffield College. An Academician of the UK Academy of Social Sciences, he was elected to the British Academy in 2002 and chaired the Academy’s Sociology, Demography and Social Statistics Section from 2006-2009. Through his career he has raised research grants and contracts from a wide variety of UK, US, European and UN agencies. He has been the Director of three ESRC Research Centres (Centre for Micro-Social Change and UK Centre for Longitudinal Studies at Essex University, Centre for Time Use Research at Oxford and UCL) and has been a Departmental Head at Bath, Essex and Oxford Universities. He has supervised or jointly supervised more than 20 PhD students to completion. He won the Silver Medal of the UK Market Research Society in 1987, gave the first Millennium Lecture at 10 Downing Street in 1999 and was appointed as a Commander of the British Empire in the Queen’s New Year Honours 2017.
