Introduction to Regression Analysis

The course is aimed at those who need to learn or refresh their memory about the workhorse of much quantitative data analysis – the ordinary least squares regression model for continuous outcomes. It is suitable for those who themselves want to use regression models. Also for those who need to be able to read and understand the analysis found in reports, journal articles and books.

In under six hours we will cover: correlation; bivariate regression for a continuous outcome; multiple regression; what does “controlling” mean?; inference – t tests & F tests for nested models; non linearity in the variables; dummy variables; interaction; predicted values; useful plots & diagnostics.

By the end of the day you will understand the logic of regression analysis and how to use it to answer typical applied questions. The course will give you a solid foundation for taking more advanced courses and the confidence to read with understanding reports and articles that use the technique.

Though it is not a course about coding all of the methods will be illustrated with examples using R in the RStudio environment. Example code will be available for participants to take away and use themselves.
