Simin is a PhD candidate in Demography at the Centre for Demographic Studies (CED), Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). Her dissertation, Changing Societies, Changing Families in East Asia: Through the Lens of Living Arrangements (working title), examines the continuities and changes in patterns and nature of intergenerational coresidence in East Asia over time alongside compressed demographic and socioeconomic changes, exploring regional differences and their association with women's labour force participation.

Her thesis is part of the ERC project "Intergenerational Coresidence in Global Perspective: Dimensions of Change (CORESIDENCE)", PI: Albert Esteve.

Simin holds an MPhil in Sociology and Demography from the University of Oxford. She participated in the European Doctoral School of Demography (2022–2023). She has also worked as a policy analyst at a think-tank in China.

Her research interests include family demography, living arrangements, intergenerational processes, social inequalities, and gender inequalities.
