Dr Zhuofei Lu is a sociologist specialising in gender, work and family, social inequality, time-use research, and computational social science. He was a former Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Sociology at the University of Oxford and he joined the University of Warwick as an Assistant Professor in Sociology in September 2026.
Since joining Oxford in 2024, Zhuofei has worked on the ERC-funded GenTime project, where his research examines how employment arrangements, division of labour, caregiving responsibilities, and the organisation of everyday time contribute to gender and socioeconomic inequalities. He has published research in journals including Sociology, Work, Employment and Society, Social Science & Medicine and The British Journal of Sociology.
Zhuofei also develops computational approaches to sociological research. His work explores the social stratification of generative artificial intelligence, the application of natural language processing and cultural geometry to occupational gender inequality, and the use of machine learning to analyse the latent social stratification structure.
