Mathis is a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow in the Department of Sociology and a Junior Research Fellow at Trinity College. He pursues a multi-methodological research agenda on extraordinary social action. A large strand of his research focuses on the causes and consequences of social movements. Mathis' work also covers the rescue of Jews in Nazi-occupied Europe, political conflict, and collective trauma.
