Deadline for Expressions of Interest: 5pm, Monday 1 December 2025
Funder's Deadline: 4pm, Thursday 19 February 2026

Oxford Sociology invites Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for the 2026 Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowships scheme.

This scheme enables early career researchers to undertake a significant piece of publishable work, offering partial funding for the salary costs across a three-year academic research position (with the remainder to be funded by the Department).

Fellowships are tenable for up to 3 years on a full-time basis, providing up to 100% of the total salary costs in Year 1, and up to 50% total salary costs in Years 2 and 3, in addition to a maximum of £6,000 per annum for research expenses.

Due to the requirement for the Department to match salary funding, we will be supporting a limited number of exceptional candidates for this call. On receipt of EOIs, a selection process will take place.

To submit an Expression of Interest, please send the following documents to research@sociology.ox.ac.uk by 5pm on Monday 1st December 2025:

  • A completed EOI form
  • A CV (2-page maximum)
  • A statement of Proposed Research (2-page maximum) outlining the objectives, methods and expected outcomes of your proposed research project, referring also to further research and career plans beyond the fellowship’s tenure
  • A mentor statement confirming support of the Department of Sociology faculty member who will provide mentorship during the Fellowship

The Department Panel will assess the applications on the above documents and successful applicants will be notified in the week commencing 15th December 2025. Applications submitted after deadline will not be considered.

Please review the Leverhulme Trust website and the full guidelines to confirm your eligibility to apply.

Please do not hesitate to contact the Sociology Research Facilitation team with any queries. We are happy to answer any questions at research@sociology.ox.ac.uk.
