The Department was thrilled to welcome students from Aureus School in Didcot this week. The students are currently studying GCSE Sociology and were interested in meeting some sociologists and finding out how sociology as a subject can be used in real life.

The group were welcomed by Professor Christiaan Monden, who explained the varied and interdisciplinary research undertaken at the Department. This was followed by a short talk by Dr Lindsay Richards, who discussed the relationship between social class, social mobility and health.

Dr Elena Racheva and Dr Alae Baha then discussed their research into mafias and organised crime as part of the CRIMGOV project. The morning finished with Dr Charles Rahal's talk on the importance of creating scientific research that is open and reproducible.

The students then visited Worcester College where they met admissions officers and had a tour of the college and grounds.

We hope to welcome Aureus School back in the future!

Please get in touch if you'd be interested in bringing a school group to the Department.
