The American Society of Criminology, Division of Communities and Place, has announced that David Kirk, Professor of Sociology, has received the James Short Senior Scholar Award. Kirk has won the award in recognition of his book 'Home Free: Prisoner Reentry and Residential Change after Hurricane Katrina' (Oxford University Press, 2020).
'Home Free' traces the effect of residential displacement among the formerly incarcerated in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. In a series of analyses, Kirk examines whether residential relocation away from an old neighborhood can lead to desistance from crime, and provides important policy insights into ways to reduce criminal recidivism.
