Congratulations to Evelina Akimova and Iris Po Yee Lo on the successful completion of their DPhils in Sociology

The Department of Sociology would like to congratulate Evelina Akimova and Iris Po Yee Lo who have successfully completed their DPhils in Sociology.

Evelina Akimova’s thesis, titled ‘Advances and current methodological problems in understanding depression: a sociogenomic approach’, was completed under the supervision of Melinda Mills and David Brazel. Evelina’s research aims to combine social science and molecular genetics, addressing the importance of worklessness and birth cohort differences in relation to mental health.

Iris Po Yee Lo’s thesis, titled ‘The Conception and Formation of Families among Non-Heterosexual Women (Lalas) in Urban China’, was completed under the supervision of Man Yee Kan. Her research engages with important theoretical questions, such as how people make sense of family ties and how gender, sexuality and class influence individual life chances and family life.

We wish them every success with their future careers and look forward to following their achievements.
