Per Block’s research area is the Sociology of Networks, where he develops and refines statistical methods, and analyses the complex evolution of informal networks in various settings. Furthermore, he applies network concepts and methods to study social mobility, inequality and diversity. His conceptual and methodological approach focusses on the interdependence of individual decisions and the resulting macro-level structures using rigorous statistical network methodology.

Per Block holds graduate degrees in Chemistry and Sociology. He received his Dphil in Sociology from the University of Oxford in 2014. From 2014 to 2019 he was a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer at the Chair of Social Networks at the ETH Zürich where he held an ETH fellowship from 2016 to 2018.
