The Department of Sociology is delighted to congratulate Professor Anthony Heath, who becomes a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.

The Department of Sociology is delighted to congratulate Professor Anthony Heath, who becomes a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in the Queen's Birthday Honours List:

"Professor Anthony Francis Heath, FBA. Professor of Sociology, University of Manchester and Emeritus Professor of Sociology University of Oxford. For services to Social Science. (Oxford, Oxfordshire)"

Anthony Heath will be delivering the first of our Alumni Lectures as part of the University Alumni Weekend, on Saturday 21 September in the Manor Road Building at 4.15 pm.

His subject will be "The battle for the Black vote – findings from the Ethnic Minority Election Survey", where he will be presenting findings from the ESRC-funded Ethnic Minority British Election Survey and assessing the political implications for the main political parties of the growth of ethnic diversity in Britain, the distinctive concerns of Black and Asian voters, and past patterns of support for Labour. Results from the survey will be published this autumn by Oxford University Press.
