  1. Best overall performance in the MSc exams: Meenakshi Parameshwaran
  2. Best MSc dissertation 2008--2009: Jasmin Kossmann, 'The social stratification of musical taste: snobs, omnivores and everything in between'. Ms Kossman used data from the Cultural Capital and Social Exclusion survey to examine the social stratification of musical taste in contemporary Britain.

(A.H. Halsey, one of the first sociologists at Oxford, pioneered surveys of social mobility and has contributed to many fields including stratification and the sociology of education. His magisterial A History of Sociology in Britain: Science, Literature, and Society was published by Oxford University Press, 2004.)
